Why We Need Dolls In Our Lives - Ruby Lane Blog

Why We Need Dolls In Our Lives - Ruby Lane Blog: Why We Need Dolls In Our Lives:  No culture has been without dolls. In some societies, the doll figures that remain seem to be more idol or ritual figures, but the same cultures refer to dolls as children’s toys.  They might be very simple compared to their idols or decorative figures, maybe a decorated twig... Roseanne and the Kestner and Martin Mull and Miniature

Roseanne herself was a doll collector; I taped a segment of her with her dolls about 25 years ago. Tonight ,on the finale of her resurrected show, she had Kestner as a prop  She also had doll houses and shots from a doll store, shown below.

In a quirk of dolly fate, Martin Mull was on an old Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.  He was Roseanne's co-star in the old show.  He showed paintings he did of using doll house furniture as models, and he got at the time 3-5,000.00 each.  He actually went to miniature stores to look for them.  below are images from tonight's Roseanne.

I am working on a Facebook page called Doll Universe, formally under another name.  It was a gift to me from our friend, SF, a wonderful person, collector, and dealer.  Please check it out!

Artistic Pastries

Japanese Pastries, Hippo Bakery, Mitsuwa Shopping Center

Gingerbread, dough babies, bread dolls from all over Europe are part of the history of dolls.  These artistic, wonderful pastries carry on that tradition.  I have posted more examples of dough art on my Instagram site under ellen_tsagaris.

They are made it the tradition of doll cakes and similar offerings.  Peru is famous for its dough figures, and so is China particularly tiny examples under mini domes of glass.
